The little mongoose known as the meerkat (Suricata suricatta) inhabits the dry, open spaces of southern Africa. Large burrow networks on plains are home to groups of two to thirty animals that form a social order. The extensive subterranean network of the burrows creates a cozy microclimate that shields the Meerkat from inclement weather and high heat. The Meerkat is an insectivorous animal that mostly consumes beetles and other lepidopterans. Occasionally, it will also consume small birds, reptiles, arthopods, and amphibians. The coat’s physical characteristics include light and dark stripes on the back, a light gray to yellow-brown color, and foreclaws that help with digging. Its lengthy legs, sharp snout, and huge eyes are further features.

The Meerkat weighs between 1.3 and 2.2 pounds (.6 and kg) overall and ranges in length from 9.8 to 13.8 inches (25 to 35 cm). The typical size of a meerkat is 5.7″–7.9″ (14.5–20 cm) in height at the shoulder, 2.75”–3.5″ (7-9 cm) in width at the body, and 6.7”–9.8” (17–25 cm) in length at the tail. The Meerkat has an 8–20 year lifespan on average.

Step 1

How to Draw a Great Looking Meerkat for Kids and Beginners

Draw the head of the cartoon meerkat to start the outline of the animal. For drawing the ears, top of the head, and nose, use overlapping curved lines.

For the nose, shade a rounded triangle. For the eyes, draw three smaller circles in succession. Between the two smallest, create a shade.

Step 2

Easy Meerkat Drawing

Use curving lines to depict the head’s side and neck. In the space between the ears, draw a curving “V”-shaped line across the eyes.

Step 3

Draw a meerkat head

Draw a long, wavy line from the side of the head, then fold it back on itself. The meerkat will use this as its arm.

Draw a long, curving line from the neck’s opposing side. The remaining foreleg is formed by folding it over on itself twice.

Step 4

Outline the tummy with a long, curved line drawn from the arm. Draw claws on the paws and give a fuzzy texture on the chest using curved lines.

Step 5

The meerkat’s back can be drawn with a long, curving line. To construct the back leg, fold it in half.

Draw the leg that’s left. Draw a long, curving line, then fold it in half. To show the toes, draw little lines at the tips of each foot.

Step 6

To encircle the tail, extend a curving line from the rear of the leg and double it back on itself.

Step 7

Finish Drawing Your Meerkat’s Outline

Draw a curved line to represent the belly. Enclose curved triangles to represent the meerkat’s back’s stripes, and add a curved line to the tip of its tail.
